My first ever blog...
So this year I wanted to challenge myself and read a few books. Mainly autobiographies, written by Successful Black Women because hey, who else am I going to relate to. I read Gabrielle Union's We're going to need more wine, Taraji P Henson's Around the way girl, Tiffany Haddish's The Last Black Unicorn, Patricia Bright Heart and Hustle and finally Michelle Obama Becoming (five books LOL its's quite an achievement for me). All books i can honestly say I would read again. They all had their own struggles, trials and tribulations but guess their journeys taught them? Confidence. Honestly, those that know me may consider me as confident especially with my vibrant personality and I have my amazing Mother, Nan's, Aunties and Cousins, aka The Village, to thank for that.
Each of those women showed me what hard work and determination can help you to achieve anything you set your mind to. Ive never been the smartest but i've always tried to give 100% in everything I do. Ok yes I have bad days. Days where honestly I just want to chill and just be a bum but where my journey wants to take me i just won't, not can't, allow it. So i throw on my big girl panties and get on with it.
Definition:
-the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.
-the state of feeling certain about the truth of something.
-a feeling of self-assurance arising from an appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities.
As women we are consistently plagued with the assumption of confidence being perceived as cockiness. Why cant we be confident in our abilities and qualities without being questioned or looked down upon. Naturally as women we are reliable and certain about most things and are inquisitive to find our own way if we are not.
Even with proven accolades as examples for our relevance, this is still not enough for some. But today it ends! We will celebrate and be confidently Bossy, Bold and Aggressive and that is in the positive sense of the word, to make a stand and our mark on the world. So being apologetic for who we are should never be an option. So if you have to be “stubborn” or “strong willed” as THEY politely word it, should no longer be a hurdle to where WE want to get to next. So with this motivation, do not hesitate to be that bright CONFIDENT woman u are!
